Bradken

about.

Bradken is a global manufacturer and supplier of custom-engineered wear solutions for the mining, energy, and freight rail industries. With over a century of industrial expertise, the company serves clients around the world by delivering high-performance equipment and parts tailored to some of the harshest operating environments.

In 2021, Bradken set out to modernize their digital presence and create a website that better reflected their scale, innovation, and commitment to engineering excellence. As part of the product design squad, I collaborated across a multi-disciplinary team to reimagine the site from the ground up—focusing on structure, usability, and brand perception.

challenge.

Bradken’s previous website had become outdated both visually and functionally. Content was fragmented, user flows were unclear, and the interface lacked the polish and credibility expected from a global engineering leader. The redesign needed to achieve three core goals:

  • Establish a clear and scalable information architecture to support Bradken’s complex offerings across multiple industries.

  • Improve usability for a global audience that included procurement teams, engineers, and potential partners.

  • Elevate the visual design to reflect Bradken’s innovation, heritage, and global capabilities.

my approach

  • Participated in immersive stakeholder workshops to align on user goals, content priorities, and business objectives.

  • Conducted a comprehensive UX audit of the existing site, supported by competitor benchmarking and industry research.

  • Led the creation of detailed sitemaps and wireframes, helping restructure the content into a more intuitive and accessible hierarchy.

  • Collaborated on a component-based UI system, using modular layouts to support flexibility across product, industry, and brand storytelling pages.

  • Ensured a mobile-first experience that performed well across devices and supported Bradken’s global accessibility needs.

The project was conducted over a four-month period, from April to August 2021, in close collaboration with content strategists, developers, and stakeholders across multiple time zones.

results.

The new Bradken website launched with a revitalized experience that combined performance, clarity, and credibility:

  • A streamlined navigation system that improved findability across product categories and services.

  • Stronger brand storytelling through a modern, industrial visual language and structured content design.

  • Scalable UI patterns that accommodated future growth in case studies, careers, and sustainability reporting.

  • A CMS-powered backend enabling internal teams to manage updates more independently.

  • Positive stakeholder feedback, noting the clarity, polish, and long-term usability of the new platform.

The redesign helped reposition Bradken’s brand digitally, bringing their industrial legacy and engineering focus into a modern user experience that reflects their global ambitions.
