Banlaw
about.
Banlaw is a global leader in industrial fluid management, providing high-precision systems that track and control the distribution of fuel and lubricants in mining, rail, and heavy equipment sectors. Their ResTrack Lite product is a secure, cost-effective solution designed for smaller or remote operations that require simplified access control and real-time fluid tracking.
Our team was brought in to design a desktop management portal and mobile application for ResTrack Lite. I worked alongside another product designer to help shape the end-to-end user experience across both platforms—focusing on usability, efficiency, and safety in rugged, high-pressure industrial contexts.
challenge.
The goal was to provide a seamless interface between Banlaw’s users and its physical infrastructure—enabling safe, controlled fuel access in the field while giving administrators robust oversight of vehicles, assets, and users.
key challenges
Designing for Bluetooth-connected interactions between mobile devices and fuel hardware (e.g. pumps, RFID readers).
Supporting usage in low-connectivity or offline environments, with intuitive system feedback.
Creating a flexible admin UI for configuring users, permissions, vehicles, and fuel events.
Ensuring hardware states (e.g. "Nozzle active", "Pump locked") were clearly reflected in the digital experience.
our approach
Defined and mapped task flows for both administrators (web portal) and field operators (mobile app), emphasizing safety and speed of use.
Designed a modular UI system, enabling components to flex across different roles and contexts.
Developed a mobile app interface optimized for on-site use, with large, accessible buttons and visual states tied to Bluetooth hardware status.
Incorporated offline support patterns and clear error feedback to ensure usability in remote locations.
Worked closely with engineers to ensure seamless UI interaction with real-time hardware feedback via Bluetooth and device sensors.
We prioritized not only functional clarity but also operational confidence, ensuring that both admin and operator users could trust the system to guide them.
results.
The final designs delivered a connected, high-reliability experience that supported safe fluid access across a range of industrial scenarios:
A responsive admin portal for managing user access, vehicle assignments, fuel events, and site activity with streamlined workflows.
A robust mobile app experience tailored to real-world conditions—supporting Bluetooth connectivity, error recovery, and quick task execution.
Clear visual representations of pump and tag states to reduce confusion and training overhead.
Reusable interface components and layout patterns ready to scale across Banlaw’s evolving product roadmap.
By improving both the digital and physical interaction models, we helped Banlaw extend the reach and reliability of ResTrack Lite in some of the world’s most challenging operating environments.
